Duomo di San Giovanni Battista

Church dating back to the 12th century dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, a saint venerated by the Lombard people.

Church dating back to the 12th century and transformed into a cathedral starting from 1998. The building has been damaged and rebuilt several times, in fact today it is considerably different from the original, while still maintaining the late Romanesque style that has characterized it since its construction.

For the rebuilding, marbles, stones, and columns recovered from the area of the monastery of San Ilario were used. It was customary to use the church as a cemetery, and in the cathedral, some inscriptions on flooring slabs are still visible to commemorate the deceased, mainly members of brotherhoods and some priests.

In the thirteenth century the church fell into ruin and remained for about forty years in neglect, until on June 7, 1290 the Benedictine Prando bought the ruins from the bishop of Treviso making himself recognized the privilege of appointing the rector priest once he restored it (right of patronage). This created the conditions for the passage of the church, which was rebuilt from the foundations and consecrated by Augustine, Bishop of Novigrad (Heraclea), on 20 June 1306. By the middle of the century it was damaged and perhaps enlarged. Visit-able church, it is recommended to check the schedule of Mass celebrations.
