In Mira, Forte Poerio was built, based on a construction project approved in 1908 within the National Defense Plan.
Forte Poerio was created to replace the construction of a much larger fortification that was supposed to close the front in the Malcontenta area. It is characterized by a structure with simple, stylized geometric lines, built of concrete, consisting of a long body topped by domes that served to protect the gun emplacements. Originally, it was surrounded by a rectangular ring moat that no longer exists today.
In fact, Forte Poerio met the same fate as the Fortified Camp of Mestre, which, upon completion, proved ineffective against the armaments in use at the time. Never involved in military events, it was used after 1915 as a depot for ammunition and weapons.
Forte Poerio is now owned by the Municipality of Mira. Access to the building is prohibited, but the park can be visited, which is currently equipped with children's playgrounds, tables, and barbecues.
Park open with the following hours:
winter hours: 08:00-18:00;
summer hours: 08:00-19:00
